Laundry light

A while ago I made this light for the laundry but I still hadn't got around to putting it on here. I got the idea from a magazine and got one of our preserving jars and transformed it. I think it's pretty cool ;).

Painting, painting, painting.

Since my last post we have basically been...painting! Everything smells of paint and wherever we go we take the smell with us. The builder worked on the outside of the house and re-did the cladding. He has now finished everything he has to do. So we need to finish the painting so that we can get all the electrical stuff hooked up, tile the bath and then get the vinyl laid. We are still waiting on our cupboards from the joiner as well.

The homeward run

The bathroom is now functional! We are now in the process of painting it before anything else can be done. The shower did leak but now it is awesome and the toilet did block a couple of times but a vent has solved that problem. The painting isn't so easy because we are using oil paint so everything stinks of oil paint fumes, you get a headache when you paint and it takes ages to dry. We have finished the undercoat and Bryan is currently painting the first coat on the ceiling. Tomorrow we are off to Christchurch for the weekend so we won't get any more painting done until next week now.
Hopefully the cupboards from the joiners should be ready soon and we are getting a shower dome installed on Tuesday. The builders are currently re-cladding the outside of the back part of the house. So hopefully in a couple of weeks it should all be finished!

week 3 and most of week 4 of bathroom reno

As you will be able to see from the photos below we have had some major progress in the last week and a half! Hopefully by the end of today the shower and basin will be operational as we have to move home tomorrow. Mum and Dad get home tomorrow so we have to be out of their house and we were hoping that the bathroom would've been finished by then...it has been 4 weeks since they started and it has been a long process. As they say "good things take time" this week's theme at toastmasters was adages so I am thinking in adage mode hehehehe. Finally all the insulation is in and the gib up and stopped. We should be able to paint this weekend. (yay yay yay!). There have been ups and downs as usual but overall it has gone well. The builder managed to get the shower tray level and now the shower is installed...the rooms have shrunk from the walls been made square and we have a lost a window and when the builder went to fix it he found it was full of dry rot! The joiners came to have a look and it works out cheaper to buy a new window so a new window has been ordered and the hole temporarily covered up so the room is weather tight. Yesterday I had to go to the bank to ask for more money so that the work can continue...don't think I would like for things to remain as they are currently so more money is pretty important. Oh the electrician disappeared on holiday to the states so we are hoping he will be back soon so we can have a heater and lights! So, yeah, have a look...the pictures show all ;).

Week Two of bathroom reno

Another week has gone by of the bathroom renovations. It is hard to see everything that has been done in the photos but basically the builder has got everything ready for the gib to go up and has insulated and started putting gib on the ceiling. All the plumbing and wiring has been done as well so hopefully things should start coming together pretty quickly now.

Week One of bathroom reno

We decided after a lot of discussion that Plan A of Judith's designs was definitely the way to go.
We are now living at Mum and Dad's and Mum and Dad are in europe at the moment. We are a week and a half into the bathroom/laundry renovations and things are running smoothly...quite different to the kitchen. Both rooms have been totally gutted, the floor stabilised and the new door and window have been installed. Yesterday our whole house was made a whole lot warmer when we got new pink batts in the ceiling with the help of the government/energywise subsidy for making homes warmer.

Laundry all ready (thanks to Bryan) for the builder with the big cupboards removed and some of the wall linings.

after first day of builder!

wall linings of new laundry removed

not much left on new bathroom walls

after bryan spent an afternoon ripping the ceiling off last weekend.

new back door installed...the challenge will be to train Marty to use the cat door..mmm

new window...pretty

view with all the new windows and doors

framing for new ceiling up

the two rooms are they are now...Bryan removed the panels off the doors too and they look so much better...not a disaster like the kitchen door was.

the vinyl we think we are going to put on the floor as it just looks like plain tiles and I have discovered I pretty much hate ALL vinyl!

Tomorrow all the bathroom stuff from mastertrade is arriving: a new vanity, toilet, taps, laundry tub, mirror. shower mixer (yes..the methven beauty shower), bath tub...etc....very exciting! We just need to get the joiners to make the cupbards for both rooms too which we are going to get done in pavement to match the vanity and the vinyl people are coming around for a measure and quote on thursday. So it is all very exciting and everything is go!

Kitchen finished...now the bathroom

The kitchen is all finally finished and is sooo warm now that we can close the door and sit in there with the fire on...mmmm.
Now we are getting all ready to start the bathroom. We are hoping to get the whole thing done in June as Mum and Dad are away that month so we can stay at their house and it will make life a whole lot easier. Lindsay is already to start in June and this week Judith finished up two possible plans for the bathroom and laundry. At the moment we are favouring plan A.
